There’s no party quite like a house party – especially when Jayda G and Ruby Savage are involved. Teaming up with fellow nightlife advocates Monkey Shoulder, we’ve been working hard to bring you the parties of a lifetime, and on August 17, the first event went off in the heart of Leeds.
Champions of feel-good sounds Jayda G and Ruby Savage played the headline set, performing back-to-back, Shoulder To Shoulder, to celebrate our campaign with Monkey Shoulder, the 100% malt whisky made for mixing.
Shoulder To Shoulder was born out of a need for community in the music industry. At a time of turbulence with the cost of living crisis and the lasting effects of lockdown continuing to run rife, harming the events industry and the people who make up our scene, we’re aiming to rewrite the night.
We decided that something needed to change, and the needs of the communities who depend on nightlife for work, play or sanctuary should be at the heart of that movement.
Based on your response to our polls on social media, we transformed The Faversham into the ultimate house party, using feedback from the people who make nightlife tick to tailor the event to their wants and needs. From the DJ bookings to the drinks menu to the interior design, everything was set up for a next-level night out.
Jayda G and Ruby Savage got the party hitting overload as our joint headliners of the night – and it went down a treat. With a set of disco balls hanging overhead, the pair beamed as they switched up the vibe between tracks running through disco selections and heaps of uplifting dancefloor shakers.
Their performance was bookended either side by flawless opening and closing sets from local Leeds favourites Michael Upson of queer dance party Love Muscle and DJ Subaru of the inclusive Leeds event PLEASUREMAXXX. Meanwhile in the living room, Cosmic Slop DJs took over the decks all-night-long.
