Two men in their 40s sadly died at Glastonbury Festival this weekend, Avon and Somerset confirm.
48-year-old DJ and radio host Jason Winder, passed away in his tent following a “medical incident” at 4:AM according to Avon & Somerset Police — emergency services were called to the scene, however paramedics were unable to revive him.
Winder previously worked as an expat in Phuket, Thailand, where he hosted DJ sets and radio shows under the stage name Jason Wilder. He’s known for his afternoon shows on Phuket Live 89.5FM, where he’d play for three hours non-stop.
Friend Tim Newton, who played alongside Winder on Phuket Live 89.5FM, paid tribute to the “ultra talented DJ” in a post seen by The Evening Standard, writing: “Such a natural-born engager and entertainer – solo behind the mic, or in the company of close friends and family, or in front of thousands.”
“Jason spent most of the post-COVID years working back in the UK, mostly in music and when we last spoke a few months ago, it was about Glastonbury…. Glastonbury, Glastonbury, Glastonbury,” he added.
“And he died there doing what he loved – surrounded by music, friends, and you can be sure, a lot of love and laughter. Jason lived large and packed a lot of life into his 48 short years. RIP dear friend.”
The Phuket News also ran a segment in tribute to the former expat.
In a second, unrelated incident, a Glastonbury crew member was reportedly found unresponsive in his tent by The Park stage on Tuesday afternoon (June 27) by colleagues.
Avon and Somerset Police confirmed to The BBC, that officers were called to site around 14:20 PM — the man has yet to be publicly identified, but is thought to be in his 40s.
