Critical Music boss Kasra’s set with MCs GQ and Mantmast from fabric’s Critical Music’s 15th birthday event in 2017 has been released as the latest installment of Never Sleep’s charity tape series.

The tape is out in memory of Shaun Roberts, the late FABRICLIVE programmer who passed away last Christmas after an 18-month long battle with colon cancer. Roberts’ connection with fabric began when he helped promote the launch, and over the years he became an integral part of the team.

He worked as promotions manager for 10 years, from 2006 to 2016, with one of his most noteworthy contributions being his work with Steve Blonde on FABRICLIVE. The series became the definitive platform for dubstep, bass, UK techno and jungle, with Andy C noting that it became a “second home” for the drum ‘n’ bass community.

Beyond events, FABRICLIVE was also an acclaimed compilation series. The series put out legendary mixes from the likes of Andy C & DJ Hype, Ben UFO, Kode9 & Burial, Oneman and dBridge & Instra:mental.

Roberts gave Kasra and his label, Critical Music, a residency at FABRICLIVE, and played a crucial part in his journey as a DJ.

Kasra writes on his Instagram: “Fabric played a huge role in shaping me as a music fan and years later became the London home for me and my label. This wouldn’t have happened without the help and support of Shaun Roberts”.

When Never Sleep asked Kasra to contribute to their mix series, the drum ‘n’ bass DJ knew that he’d like to use this opportunity to honour Roberts and help raise money for Bowel Cancer UK.
