Yesterday, British duo Everything But The Girl (real names Ben Watt and Tracey Thorn) released a new remix by Four Tet of their recent single ‘Nothing Left to Lose’.

On the track, Four Tet (real name Kieran Hebden) layers Thorn’s vocals over a four-to-the-floor beat, dreamy pads and a bumpy bassline.

It comes as part of an EP of remixes of the track, sitting alongside an instrumental version of Four Tet’s remix, as well as two extended club versions by the band’s Watt and engineer Bruno Ellingham.

Commenting on the new remix, Watt and Thorn said: “We’ve always loved that meditative but propulsive thing in Kieran’s music.

“The restraint mixed in with the momentum,” they continued. “It is something that we often explore as well, so asking him too rework one of our songs felt like a great fit.

“There is a confident lightness of touch to his remix, underpinned by a raw killer beat, and a beautiful final third where all the subtle intricacies of his additional production coalesce.”

‘Nothing Left to Lose’ is taken from Everything But The Girl’s upcoming album ‘Fuse’, which is set to be released on April 21.

The LP will be the duo’s first studio album in nearly a quarter of a century, having not released new music since ‘Temperamental’ in 1999. It was secretly recorded in a small studio near Bath, in the South West of England, with the duo working alongside Ellingham.

Since quietly pausing their combined musical output and stopping performances at the turn of the millennium, the duo have married, as well as pursued solo musical projects.

As of yet, the band haven’t announced any tour dates. When asked if they planned to, Thorn told NME: “That’s the big question that we haven’t addressed.

“At the moment, our answer is the same as it’s always been which is: we currently don’t have any plans.”
