American Express has revealed a brand new documentary, Unsigned, chronicling its recent music initiative which saw the breakthrough of Nottingham rapper Jazzie Martian.

The American Express Gold Unsigned initiative went ahead earlier this year in search of emerging UK artists, giving one lucky winner the chance to win a £10,000 sync fee, a record deal with the release of a debut single, mentorship from industry professionals, and the opportunity to perform at a major UK festival.

The hour-long film follows the initiative from the start and includes appearances from panellists from Mixmag, NME, and BIMM, as well as scenes at the Unsigned live showcase earlier this summer which saw artists go head-to-head for the big prize.

Jazzie Martian, a Nottingham-born rapper and winner of Amex Gold Unsigned, is documented throughout the film in his journey to being crowned, and sees the release of his debut single, ‘Future’.

“We’re very excited to support up-and-coming musical talent through an initiative like Amex Gold Unsigned,” says Dave Edwards, Director at American Express and Unsigned Panellist.

“Not only were we able to support talent directly, but we also hope that creating a documentary on this journey will inspire other emerging artists, as well as entertain music fans.”

Speaking on the documentary, Creative Director for MBCS Richard Cable said: “Unsigned is proof positive that brands have a legitimate role as creators of original content. It’s a brilliant story about a brilliant initiative that was done in the right way.”

The hour-long documentary is now available on Amazon Prime. Watch it here.
